wtf is deeptech anyways?
i think the definition of what deeptech is, is shifting. the term itself is super oblivious to me as it feels much like a term to define “we are doing real tech” instead of “we are just using whatever is on the market”. it reminds me of the “only natural sciences are real sciences” at (at least) german universities. it seems like only deeptech is the real tech, all the others are just putting old blocks together in a new way.
that’s what i thought it meant. and then i read some article about a startup that used 3d scanning to find correct clothing sizes and they said they’re a deeptech startup. and to me a deeptech startup would’ve created the scanner and not just use the one of the smartphone.
and now i’m confused. maybe my computer science brain treats these terms differently, but in a exaggerated way: what even is ANYTHING anymore?
